Postgraduate Diploma in Theatre Costume
Our full-time, two-year Postgraduate Diploma in Theatre Costume is aimed at students pursuing a career as a costume maker or supervisor. You will cover all areas of costume-making, from pattern-cutting through to the finished garment, and gain the skills needed to take a design or costume reference and transform it into a finished garment.
This is a practical, conservatoire-level programme, and is validated by King’s College London. Please note that the programme is undergoing revalidation by King’s in 2017-18, with the revalidated programme planned to start from September 2018.
You will be prepared fully for a career in wardrobe making and supervision and will gain experience and confidence supervising costume on RADA’s public productions, where you will work with professional directors and designers. This will also improve your organisational and management skills and give you budget control and ordering experience.
You will gain an understanding of the employment framework of costume/wardrobe departments within theatre and related industries, and graduate with the skills to be employed within, or in support of, a costume department.
In your final term you will exhibit your work in an annual exhibition held at RADA, giving you the opportunity to talk about your work with an invited group of industry contacts.

- Wig and hair maintenance and make up
- Fabric and costume dyeing
The main purpose of the programme is to provide a broad-based practical training, enabling students to pursue a career in thaeatre costume-making and wardrobe, including making, pattern-cutting and managerial skills. It also aims to prepare the students for careers in related fields within the entertainment industry.
