Costume Tutor (Supervision)
Salary: £38,180
Hours: Full time (37.5 hours)
Contract: One year fixed term


The Role:

Pass on your skills & experience to the students of RADA and join our busy Costume Department


We are looking for an experienced Theatre costume Professional to share in the training of our technical theatre students and to participate in the preparation of the public shows at RADA, to join our busy costume Department.

The successful applicant will be jointly responsible for the teaching of the 1st and 2nd year students on the MA Costume Course and the Technical Theatre and Stage Management Fda and BA courses.

The successful applicant will be required to Supervise RADA public shows or mentor students in that role. They will also run a day with the TTSM students, teaching about Theatre Costume production roles, textiles and fibres and an afternoon of introduction to basic SFX make-up. Both hand and machine, strong making skills and knowledge of the history of costume are very beneficial to the role.

Knowledge in Hair and make-up is also beneficial and overseeing the students in their show-running duties is a large part of the job, as well as mentoring the students in their preparation for moving into the industry.

The hours are varied and includes evening and weekend work but are based on a 37.5 hours a week with time taken off in lieu of overtime worked. The courses run in three terms of between 10 and 13 weeks.

The role requires a committed, self-motivated person who works well in a team and can lead diplomatically, confidently and with care and attention to furthering RADA’s goals of creating dedicated, confident and skilled Theatre Professionals.

The Team :

The costume department consists of the Head of costume, Deputy Head of Costume/Tutor and an Assistant. There is also a WHAM specialist available.
