Two RADA alumni have been nominated for Emmy Awards, as the shortlists were announced in California today.

Matthew Rhys (1996 graduate) has been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series for his role as Philip Jennings in The Americans. Rhys has led the cast of the Cold War drama since it premiered in 2013, and has previously been nominated for three Critics' Choice Television Awards and three TCA Awards for his performance between 2013-2015. The series has gained five nominations in total at this year's Emmy Awards.

Also nominated is RADA alumnus Tom Hiddleston (2005) who is up for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for his role as undercover agent Jonathan Pine in the BBC's hit drama The Night Manager. The show was praised by critics and audiences alike and following its popularity in the UK, was subsequently broadcast on AMC earlier this year. The series has been nominated for twelve awards at this year's Emmys, and also features RADA alumni David Harewood, Douglas Hodge and Tobias Menzies.
