Neil grew up in London. Having gained a BA in Theatre Studies and Philosophy at the University Of Ulster, he went on to train as an actor at RADA.

Since graduating in 1996, acting work on stage includes The Man of Mode for the National Theatre, Much Ado About Nothing for the RSC, The Merchant of Venice for Shakespeare’s Globe, Khandan and How To Hold Your Breath for the Royal Court. Work on TV includes Eastenders, Holby City, Hustle, while film credits include Filth, Still Life, Closed Circuit and the lead in Italian Movies (2012).

As a writer, his play Five Beats To The Bar was broadcast on BBC Radio 4. He wrote several episodes for the continuing drama Westway (1997-2005) for BBC World Service. His first stage play Small Miracle was produced by the Tricycle Theatre in 2008, while his second - Coming Up – was staged at the Watford Palace Theatre in October 2015. Both are published by Oberon.

He has directed, and taught acting, directing and writing, at various drama schools and universities including East 15, Arts Ed, Bath Spa University and Sunderland University. He has been member of the RADA audition panel since 2003.
