Singing at RADA

The Christmas Concert is a chance to showcase our student actors' singing, and the learning they have experienced throughout their training so far, as well as being an important fundraiser for the Academy and a moment to enjoy the festive season.

Why do acting students have singing lessons?

Jane Streeton, Lead Singing Tutor, explains the importance of training the voice through singing at RADA.

"We train our students to sing – regardless of their initial abilities – in order that they can all learn to speak and sing with one voice.

The students study choral singing, and singing also takes place in many of the projects and plays at RADA. Singing unites people and can be a way of saying something that we are incapable of articulating simply with words.

Everybody sings, in every culture. RADA has a fantastic history of working with people from many different backgrounds. We aim to prepare our students for every eventuality! What's exciting for me, is that whenever I turn on the television or radio, watch a movie and go to the theatre or a musical, our graduates are there using these skills at the highest level".
