The training at RADA is almost entirely vocational with a firm focus on equipping you for a career in the industry. Career guidance and professional development sessions are given throughout the course. You will learn by practical exercise and, although you will need excellent communication skills, we aren’t assessing you on ‘academic ability’ as a more traditional degree might.
Our course combines in-depth technical instruction with clear insight into the necessary organisational, managerial, and ensemble skills which form the core of successful work in theatre and all areas of the entertainment industry – film, radio, television – as well as for conference, event management and other commercial ventures.
The course includes a professional secondment / work placement for up to six weeks with a theatre company, organisation, or practitioner, and full health and safety in the workplace training including a First Aid Certificate, as well as an exploration of technical and creative film roles eg Script Supervisor, First Assistant Director, Location Manager. Other areas included:
|company management||costume making and supervision|
|history of theatre||music score reading|
|production management||property making and procurement|
|scenic art||scenic construction (in wood and metal)|
|set design||sound production and design|
|stage electrics and lighting design||stage management|
|stagecraft and technical management||technical drawing|
Your first year will give you a broad and practical training in the areas that contribute to a theatre production. You will be working on RADA productions in various crew and operator positions alongside professional directors and designers.
