In 2013 the discovery of 20 dusty old portraits in the Rowntree archives, featuring beautiful but un-named women, launched a hunt to find the faces behind the paintings. The paintings, used in the 1950s as adverts for Rowntree’s Aero chocolate, sparked a national search for ‘The Aero Girls’ which led to Pamela Synge - a RADA graduate who has now died aged 94.
Before attending RADA she studied dance in France then travelled to Russia – managing to return home aboard one of the last ships to set sail before the outbreak of the Second World War. Later in life Pamela studied at Central St Martins and Chelsea Art Schools and her portrait of Rudolf Nureyev was exhibited at the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition in 1980.
