The new casting has been announced for the West End hit show Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, with two RADA actors taking leading roles.
Current third year student Theo Ancient will make his professional stage debut as Albus Potter, son of the eponymous wizard. The story follows his first few years at Hogwarts as he attempts to come to terms with the legacy of his famous father.
RADA graduate Emma Lowndes will play Ginny, mother of Albus and wife of Harry. Emma graduated from RADA in 2000 and has since been seen on television in Cranford, Downton Abbey, Jane Eyre and Moving On. Her theatre work includes The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, The Seagull, The Accrington Pals and Port (all Royal Exchange, Manchester); The Herbal Bed (Royal & Derngate); Children of the Sun and Therese Raquin (National Theatre); and Great Expectations (RSC). Her performances in Port and The Seagull earned her the Manchester Evening News Theatre Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
Written by Jack Thorne and directed by John Tiffany, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child arrived in the West End in June 2016 and has recently been nominated for 11 Olivier Awards. In the current cast the role of Harry is played by RADA graduate Jamie Parker, who won the WhatsOnStage Award for Best Actor in a Play for his performance, and is also nominated for Best Actor at the Oliviers.
The new cast will perform their first show on 24 May. Visit the Cursed Child website for more information, and watch the video below for an insight into the first day of rehearsals.
