The Lir: Ireland’s National Academy of Dramatic Art
at Trinity College Dublin

The Lir, is a new academy for Dramatic Arts at Trinity College Dublin developed with collaboration from the Cathal Ryan Trust and in association with RADA. It offers conservatoire-style training for the theatre and related professions with its philosophy of training and courses modelled on RADA.

The training offered by The Lir takes place in an exciting new building designed specifically for the range of courses on offer. Situated in the Trinity Technology and Enterprise Campus at Grand Canal Dock close to the new cultural quarter of Dublin, The Lir Academy includes 2 black box performance studios, a dance studio, technical workshop, wardrobe workshop and a range of flexible teaching space to suit the training needs of theatre practitioners.

Students at The Lir come from very diverse backgrounds and are accepted on the basis of exceptional natural talent. A series of auditions and interviews form the basis of the admission process. Santander

RADA is working with Santander to deliver an internship scheme which offers employers 50% funding for final year students and recent graduates to undertake an internship in local SME's. RADA is a member of the Santander Universities UK network.

Participating companies need to be a Small to Medium Sized Enterprise with a turnover of less than £50m per year and a maximum of 250 employees. They need to be based in London or the surrounding areas. Companies will need to work with a final year student at, or a recent graduate of, RADA. They can be from any discipline. The internship should be three months in duration and the student should be remunerated £1000 per month (Santander will fund 50% with the company funding the remainder). All internships must begin by 30th June 2013 at the latest but you can begin earlier than this.

CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL OF VISUAL & PERFORMING ARTS
DRAMA FOUNDATION COURSE

This one-year course, designed and delivered in association with RADA, provides an exciting and challenging introduction to the world of theatre, and prepares students to apply for further vocational training. Fundamental to the Foundation is the focus on audition coaching, monologue development and the core disciplines required for future study. Students benefit from a number of master classes delivered by visiting specialist RADA tutors. During the year the students attend performances of several RADA productions and complete the RADA Shakespeare Certificate examinations.

Case Western Reserve University

A new collabration offers CWRU students the unique opportunity to pursue a rigorous academic study of European theatre history, while sharpening their theatrical skills through classes in voice, clown, physical performance, dance, combat, and singing, all supported by tutorials and seminars.

Students will spend 3-4 weeks studying a particular Timemark in European Theatre History, while exploring the performance styles of that time through four distinct performance projects, culminating in a studio presentation in one of RADA’s theatres.

NEW YORK UNIVERSITY

For over 10 years, New York University Tisch School of the Arts has been collaborating with RADA to deliver a widely acclaimed Shakespeare in Performance programme. This course has given over 250 students from the United States, the opportunity to become immersed for a semester in the world of Shakespeare, absorbing the skills necessary to tackle many areas of Elizabethan and Jacobean Theatre.

During the semester there are presentations involving Song, Dance, Sonnets, Combat, Clowning, Monologues and Scene Study; there are two Play Projects and the program concludes with an ensemble Studio Production in one of the Academy’s theatres.

The program contains a notable amount of one-to-one teaching, while the comprehensive series of skills classes offered reflects the ‘conservatoire’ training for which RADA is renowned.

This training is not available in the United States, and New York University has designated it as “a learning opportunity that is second to none”.
